HOCK vs Gleim for CMA: A Closer Look at Gleim Online

Introducing Our Wednesday Blogger: VinothVinoth is one of our CMA exam bloggers. He documents his CMA journey every Wednesday.

Here is my short post on the CMA Part Two Study Unit 2: Ratio analysis. I will share something that I found useful while using the Gleim online materials.

HOCK vs Gleim

After a long time, I have started studying for my exam preparation, and I want to do something different this week to get an idea about how other service providers structure their materials.

Until now, I have been using the HOCK textbook for my preparation and testing software from HOCK and Gleim. But this week, I found some really interesting information about how Gleim differs in its approach and how it can be useful for CMA students.

There are several modules under Gleim Online:

  • MCQs (multiple-choice questions)
  • Audio/visual presentations
  • True/false questions
  • Reading materials (electronic format)
  • Essay practice questions

Gleim starts each study unit with an MCQ quiz to test our initial knowledge before we begin to study. So don’t worry about the marks you get in this section.

The next section covers the audio/visual presentations, which gives you an overview of each study unit. The next one is about true/false statements, which is really interesting and makes me understand the differences between each ratio. Also, I can able to understand the concepts very well. They have given online copies of the materials, which is useful to those who like to study using materials.

For this study unit on ratios and analysis, it is most important to:

  • Understand the concepts very well in order to write our essay during the exam;
  • Easily identify the reason behind each ratio.

This will be useful for our preparation for the multiple-choice questions as well as the essay questions.

The Gleim materials always give you the core concepts. For the section on ratio analysis, for example, the summarized version is very helpful, as we can easily remember the different formulas and the rationale behind them.

The MCQ quizzes help us to check our progress after studying the study unit and whether we have understood the concepts or not. Gleim also provides practice essay questions to get us prepared for the essay questions as well. This is one of the unique features provided by Gleim compared to their competitors.

I hope this information will be useful to you all. Please note all these comments are based on my personal experience, which may differ between each one of us.

About the Author Vinoth

Dear readers, I am from India and currently studying for the CMA exam from my home country. I chose CMA (vs other qualifications) as I work in a multinational corporation that values this global certification. After passing Part 1 exam in the Sep/Oct 2014 testing window, I had to postpone Part 2 until Sep 2015 due to heavy commitment in work and family. Finally got the good news in Nov. Thanks for reading!
