Final Preparation for CMA Part 2

preparation for CMA Part 2Amani is one of our CMA exam bloggers. She writes for us every Tuesday.

This is a quick, short update of my final study before I sit for the exam next week.

Through last week and except for two days I was too tired to study in, things have been going really well, I have finished solving all questions for all units except unit ten which I’m currently studying but I expect to finish it by the end of this Tuesday.

After that, I will start solving retired IMA questions which are around five hundred MCQ’s and essays, hopefully I will finish them by Friday, leaving me two days before my exam on Monday. In those two days I will go over some of the theoretical part of the material and of course the formulas, just to make sure I have covered everything.

Overall, I feel optimistic and confident to sit for the exam, I feel ready and I hope the amount of time and effort I have put into studying pays off at the end. I’m really looking forward to finish the CMA and start the next adventure in my career.

Wish me luck guys 🙂

Note from Stephanie

Best of luck! I have a very good feeling that you’ll pass on your first try — again 😉

Hi Nora, not sure if I understand your question… did you mean what happens if you didn’t reach the essay questions because you didn’t manage to have 50% of the multiple choice questions correct? Then try again in another testing window. Most would try it immediately in the next window (still remembering most of the concepts) but you can choose to wait for longer to try it again.

Hi

I did part 2 today and I really felt under prepared. The questions were very numerical and thank. .I blindly guessed at least 7 questions. Thank God I got to the essay section. I had 2 questions with 5 parts each. I answered as best I could but I’m not expecting I’ll do it this time. Now the annoying wait until mid April.
Great posts from yourself and the very best of luck with your own exam today

    Hi Stephen,
I think you have a chance of passing, 7 blind guesses are not much, so lets stay optimistic, and if you didnt pass this time, you can sit again in May/June window, i know its hard, but there is no other way. you’ve got to do this.

Update us when the results are out please.
    Good luck,

Hi Kamran,

I did Part 1 as well on the 22/2/2016. As you said, MCQ section was mainly calculation and lengthy. As I know from Stephanie’s posts regarding the exam grading , difficulty is taking in to consideration and the passing rate is changing due to the exam difficulty. Please follow the link below to know more about the grading system.

I have appeared for Part 1 CMA exam on 25-02-16. It was quite difficult and lengthy. There were almost 50 to 60 numerical questions and it was really hard to even read some questions due to the time constraints. There were atleast 7 to 9 questions on which I just did blind guess. Essay part was total theory and it required to type continuously without thinking to solve it completely.

I have heard that 72% is minimum passing marks requirement. Is it true? I think paper difficulty level must also got consideration in evaluation. Results will be announced in April this year and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks, Kamran

Hi Kamran, the exam is notorious of complex and lengthy questions, so at least most people feel this way. As for the scoring, the passing score is 360 out of 500 but it isn’t a straight forward calculation of 360 / 500 = 72%. It could be 70% if the set of questions are more difficult… I wouldn’t encourage candidates to dwell on that but you can find a more detailed discussion here: https://ipassthecmaexam.com/cma-exam-scoring

looks like you did good, hopefully you will pass 🙂
BTW i like theory questions in essay more than numerical, less possibility of answering wrong as i see it.
Thank you, i’ll update you after my exam.

I took Part II today and it was pretty difficult. I made it to the essay section and I think I did fairly well on them. My two essay questions were very wordy and each question had multiple parts so I did quite a bit of typing… Anyway, I’m drained. I’m going to cross my fingers and hope for the best in April when my score is released.

I am CMA holder, since 4 years, the certification program was 4 parts, I had passed the first three parts from the first try, part 4 earned the second try. I love for what I did, it is good certification and deserve every moment of pain to get it.

Thanks for your sharing Abdul. Yes, the 4-part exam, back in 2010… There were fewer parts now but each part is longer.
